“Destiny's Song”

This 2005 Marvel limited series kicks off with a cover by penciler Randy Green and inker Rick Ketcham that puts an unlikely duo front and center: Doctor Strange, crackling with golden mystical energy, strides forward alongside a grinning, ready-for-anything Thing. The two make for a genuinely compelling pairing, their contrasting styles — sorcery and sheer rock-hard muscle — suggesting the kind of team-up that makes anthology series like this so much fun. With "Destiny's Song" as the opening story and a creative roster including Steve Gerber and Brandon Thomas on writing duties, issue one of three is a fine place to dive in.
