Sword of the Atom #3

The penultimate chapter of this 1983 mini-series finds the Atom in a savage new light — sword raised against an enormous crocodile whose gaping jaws dominate the cover, while a red-haired woman cowers at his side, clearly in immediate danger. Gil Kane's cover art crackles with energy, the tiny hero's heroic stance against the massive reptile making for a genuinely thrilling contrast of scale. Jan Strnad and Kane's jungle-fantasy reinvention of Ray Palmer is in full swing here, and "Mourning's End" promises no shortage of peril as the story heads into its final stretch.
