Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the arc pits the Man of Steel against a global conspiracy that turns the public and even his fellow heroes against him, while also exploring the fallout from the revelation of his secret identity. The volume features art by Steve Epting, Yanick Paquette, and others, culminating in a confrontation that reshapes Superman's standing in the DC Universe.
In "Superman Versus the City of Tomorrow," a future Superman and the adult Legion of Super-Heroes crash into the early days of the Man of Steel’s career, racing against time to recover a stolen piece of kryptonite hidden in a tesseract embedded in Superman’s own mind. Written by Grant Morrison and brought to life with dynamic art by Andy Kubert, this 2019 issue sees the Legion use their time bubble to infiltrate the past, disguised and desperate, as the kryptonite heads toward auction. The cover by Rags Morales captures the moment’s high stakes with striking precision.
In a city racing toward a future it may not be ready for, Superman faces a test of trust when a corrupt developer’s demolition spree puts innocent lives at risk—watched closely by General Sam Lane and Lex Luthor. When Luthor engineers a crisis on an elevated train, threatening Lois Lane’s co-worker Jimmy Olsen and her father’s daughter, Superman must act fast to prevent disaster, testing the limits of heroism in a world that’s both counting on him and afraid of what he might become.
In a world where trust is a liability, Superman breaks free from a high-security facility after being subjected to tests by General Sam Lane and Lex Luthor. As he escapes, a flicker of hope draws him toward a forgotten red-and-blue spaceship—its presence a mystery he vows to uncover. Meanwhile, John Corben faces a turning point, and Luthor’s quiet call hints at a larger game still unfolding.
In a tense, dream-tinged opening, Superman is pulled from a memory of Kandor by a sudden police raid on his apartment—part of Glen Glenmorgan’s escalating campaign against him and anyone he suspects of being alien. As tensions flare across Metropolis, Lex Luthor’s hidden ally emerges through the newly armored John Corben, setting the stage for a city on edge.
In a chilling twist, Lex Luthor’s alien ally hijacks the Metal-Zero suit, turning it into a relentless hunter as Terminauts scour the globe for priceless relics—while Metropolis itself is shrunk and bottled, leaving Superman, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen to confront the escalating threat. With General Sam Lane, Steel, Mr. Tide, and the enigmatic Collector of Worlds drawn into the chaos, the fate of Earth hangs in the balance as the battle for survival unfolds.
In "Doomsday Decision," Superman confronts the Collector of Worlds inside a vast alien vessel holding bottled cities, including Metropolis and the long-lost Kandor. With the fate of two worlds hanging in the balance, he must choose between saving the city he protects and the planet of his birth, now preserved in miniature. The weight of legacy, memory, and responsibility pushes him to don Kryptonian armor and face the Collector head-on.
In "Superman Meets... ...The Collector of Worlds," Superman faces a cosmic threat when the Collector of Worlds threatens to permanently miniaturize Metropolis. With help from Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Steel, and under the watchful eyes of Lex Luthor and General Sam Lane, Superman must confront the Collector—and the eerie presence of Brainiac and Metal-Zero—before the city vanishes forever.
In "Rocket Song," Superman confronts a mystery rooted in his origins when he discovers the ship that carried him to Earth—its final recording revealing Jor-El and Lara’s last moments, the silent journey of baby Kal-El through space, and the quiet beginnings of his life with Martha and Jonathan Kent. As the ship’s most vital element vanishes, Superman must trace the theft through echoes of his past, facing echoes of his future in the form of the Legion of Super-Heroes and the shadowy Anti-Superman Army, while the Phantom Zone villains stir in the dark.
In a pivotal moment from Superman’s early career, a future version of the Man of Steel arrives with the adult Legion of Super-Heroes to recover kryptonite stolen from his ship. With the artifact hidden in a tesseract implanted in his own mind and set to be auctioned, the Legion uses their time bubble to slip into the past, disguise themselves, and retrieve the dangerous relic before it can fall into the wrong hands.
In "The Curse of Superman," Earth-23's Superman—both President Calvin Ellis and the last son of Krypton, Kalel—faces a dual threat when Lex Luthor, once his enemy, becomes an unlikely ally. As the Justice League rallies behind him, they confront a terrifying variant of Superman, a thought-creation born from a darker Earth’s collective fear.
