Superman / Wonder Woman #23

The "Corruption" chapter of this 2016 DC series takes a punishing turn, as the cover by Ken Lashley makes viscerally clear: Superman is pinned and grimacing under the crushing grip of massive stone-like fists, while a fierce Wonder Woman — in full armor, hair wild — battles through the debris behind him against a blazing red backdrop. Peter J. Tomasi scripts, with Doug Mahnke and Jaime Mendoza bringing the interior action to life alongside colorist Wil Quintana. It's a striking image that puts DC's power couple firmly on the back foot, and makes issue #23 a compelling entry in the series.
