Superman: The Man of Steel #85

This January 1999 issue teams Superman and Jimmy Olsen against the "Mad Monster Makers," and the cover by Jon Bogdanove and Dennis Janke captures the threat with terrific energy — two menacing villains in purple clutch a glowing orb trapping a wide-eyed, terrified Jimmy Olsen, while Superman and a young girl scramble below them surrounded by a horde of snarling green creatures. The composition pays homage to Jack Kirby's 1971 style (noted right on the cover), giving the whole thing a wonderfully retro-sci-fi flavor that feels both nostalgic and fresh. If you're a fan of Superman buddy adventures with a dash of monster mayhem, "Creative Differences" looks like a thoroughly fun ride.
