Superman: The Man of Steel #33

That cover image stops you cold: a massively built, battle-worn figure wearing Superman's unmistakable red-and-yellow shield hunches forward in apparent exhaustion or agony, his skin scarred and twisted, long dark hair hanging over his bowed head. Bogdanove and Janke's cover art makes the Man of Steel look anything but invincible, and the story title "Under Siege!" only deepens the sense that the pressure bearing down on him is immense. Louise Simonson's 1994 run on Superman: The Man of Steel was never afraid to push the hero to his limits, and this issue looks like a compelling chapter in that tradition.
