The Joker has apparently seized ultimate power, and this 2000 DC one-shot makes that premise deliriously clear: the cover by Ed McGuinness and Cam Smith depicts a crown-wearing, ermine-trimmed Joker enthroned in regal splendor, casually dangling a helpless, upside-down figure beneath him while a miniature Harley Quinn perches on his shoulder like a court jester's bauble. The title itself — "Emperor Joker" — says everything, and the cover's playing-card regalia and scepter sell the mad monarchy fantasy with tremendous flair. With writers Joe Kelly and Jeph Loeb kicking off this five-part story, this oversized issue promises a wild reimagining of the Superman corner of the DC universe filtered through the Clown Prince's anarchic lens.
