Superman #9

Part two of "Escape from Dinosaur Island" promises exactly what it advertises — Doug Mahnke's cover depicts Superman and his son Jon fighting back-to-back against a chaotic swarm of prehistoric and monstrous threats, including a massive coiling serpent, a snarling white ape, and a razor-toothed dinosaur, while a gun-toting ally battles alongside them beneath the looming shadow of what appears to be a wartime aircraft. The sheer density of creatures pressing in from every angle makes this a wonderfully frenetic image, and the father-son dynamic at its center gives the chaos a surprisingly warm core. Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason's DC Universe Rebirth run is in full swing here, and this issue looks like one heck of a pulp adventure ride.
