Superman #23/1982
In "Odyssee in der Alptraum-Dimension," Superman and Supergirl follow separate trails leading to the Phantom Zone, while Batman, too, senses the connection. As Superman and Kweskill struggle through a nightmarish dimension after escaping the Zone, Earth faces a dire threat: Kryptonian criminals, armed with devices from the Fortress of Solitude and Green Lantern's power battery, aim to hurl the entire planet into the Phantom Zone. Written by Steve Gerber and illustrated by Gene Colan, with inks by Tony DeZuniga and colors by Carl Gafford, the cover by Gene Colan and Dick Giordano captures the surreal dread of the journey.
In "Odyssee in der Alptraum-Dimension," Superman and Quex-Ul fight their way through a nightmarish dimension after fleeing the Phantomzone, while Supergirl and Batman separately piece together that only in the Phantomzone can the Man of Steel be found. Meanwhile, a group of Kryptonian criminals, including General Zod and Jax-Ur, plot to use stolen technology from the Fortress of Solitude and Green Lantern's power battery to hurl Earth into the Phantomzone.
In "null," Superman—diminished in power and imprisoned by the enigmatic Der Maulwurf—is put on auction, forcing Lois Lane and the Omega Men to seek out the reclusive Cave Carson for help. With the aid of the Justice League satellite and a desperate rescue mission, Superman not only breaks free but also saves the New Teen Titans from a deadly fate in space, all while navigating the shadows of a forgotten past tied to figures like Lord Satanis, Sirene, and the mysterious Primus.
