Superman #206
Neal Adams's cover for Superman #206 (May 1968) delivers an immediately striking image: the Man of Steel bound in heavy chains, held aloft by two imposing figures in purple costumes, while a hostile crowd closes in from all sides and an angry speech balloon demands his execution. The featured story, "The Day Superman Became an Assassin!," promises a tale that puts the hero in an extraordinary and deeply compromising position. With interior work by writer Jerry Coleman and artist/inker Al Plastino, this is a fine snapshot of late-Silver Age DC storytelling at its most dramatically charged.
