Return to Krypton II" kicks off here with a cover by Kilian Plunkett that sets an ambitious, otherworldly tone — Clark Kent tears open his shirt to reveal the Superman costume as a massive, stern-faced Kryptonian figure looms above him amid crystalline alien architecture, while an armored enemy fires from the lower corner and a regal, halo-crowned figure watches from on high. The collision of Clark's everyday identity with this grand, alien world makes for a genuinely compelling visual promise. Part one of four, written by Geoff Johns with art by Pascual Ferry, this September 2002 issue signals that Superman's relationship with his lost homeworld is about to get considerably more complicated.
