Superman #159

Superman #159 teams the Man of Steel with Green Lantern for a cosmic slugfest, and the cover by Ed McGuinness and Cam Smith delivers the goods — Superman goes fist-to-fang with a massive, snarling red alien brute while Green Lantern constructs a glowing energy weapon above, and a red-haired woman in golden armor fires an energy blast across a star-filled void. Writer Jeph Loeb and artists McGuinness and Paul Pelletier bring their A-game to "Detour," a story that clearly takes our heroes far from familiar territory. That "Maximum Massacre" banner at the bottom promises the kind of hard-hitting, wide-open space adventure that made this creative run such a treat in 2000.
