From 1956 comes this wonderfully tense slice of Silver Age Superman storytelling. The cover by Al Plastino drops us right into the drama: a suited man — billed as "Cosmo the Great" — holds up a paper to a visibly startled Superman, declaring that the name written on it is the Man of Steel's secret identity, all before a crowd of onlookers. That single charged moment captures everything readers loved about Superman's double life and the constant, nail-biting threat of exposure. With interior art by Wayne Boring and Stan Kaye, this 10-cent issue is a fine example of DC's Silver Age at full stride.
