Supergirl #79

The tagline "…And There Can Be Only One!" sets a charged, emotional tone for this April 2003 installment of Peter David's run on the title. Ed Benes and Alex Lei's cover renders a striking image: one Supergirl cradles a seemingly unconscious second Supergirl against a blazing crimson moon, her face contorted in anguish, while a vast crowd of DC heroes — including Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, the Flash, and many others — looks on as solemn witnesses. It's a cover that manages to feel both epic in scope and deeply personal, making issue #79 a compelling entry in the "Many Happy Returns" storyline.
