Supergirl #5
In "Power Chapter Five: Supergirls," Supergirl faces a shocking duality when a mysterious version of herself emerges from the shadows—claiming she was meant to destroy Kal-El and only kept her humanity through deception. Written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated with striking intensity by Ian Churchill, with inks by Norm Rapmund and vibrant colors by Alex Bleyaert and David Baron, this pivotal issue sees the JLA caught in a clash of identities, as both Supergirls are brought before Wonder Woman’s lasso. The cover, a dynamic collaboration by Ian Churchill and Michael Turner, captures the moment of confrontation, setting the stage for a transformation that redefines who she is.

Dark Supergirl recalls just before Kara left Krypton, her father told her she is to kill the baby Kal-El. She is then "made innocent" to assimilate better, but her "true" self emerged under Darkseid. Supergirl claims Dark Supergirl is lying and they fight. The JLA confronts them, and they wrestle some more. After more fighting, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman show up. Supergirl asks that both of the Supergirls be bound by Wonder Woman's lasso, and is asked "Who is Kara Zor-El?" After an explosion, both are merged again, into "Supergirl", who wishes to be known as that and not Kara Zor-El.
