Supergirl #17

Part of the sprawling "H'el on Earth" crossover, this April 2013 issue puts Wonder Woman front and center on a striking cover by Mahmud Asrar — fists raised, lasso gleaming, she squares off in a combat-ready crouch against two massive off-panel opponents in what appears to be a Kryptonian setting. The tagline "For Krypton to Live, Wonder Woman Must Die!" sets up a genuinely compelling conflict between Supergirl's desperate loyalty to her homeworld and the Amazon warrior standing in her way. Mike Johnson and Mahmud Asrar were crafting some of the New 52's most visually charged superhero drama, and this issue looks like a high point of that run.
