“Fish Out of Water”

In "Fish Out of Water," Supergirl and her ally Grace go undercover on a pirate yacht, only to be trapped when the crew's super-powered secrets are exposed. When Kara encounters a wounded mermaid-like creature begging to be killed—a memory that echoes a painful moment from her Kryptonian past—she’s forced to confront her own limits. The issue, written by Joe Kelly and illustrated by Joe Benitez with inks by Victor Llamas and colors by Rod Reis, ends with Kara rescued by the mysterious Power Boy, as the full scope of the pirates’ curse unravels. The cover, by Ian Churchill, captures the moment of tension with striking intensity.

Supergirl and Grace are undercover raiding a yacht. They expose super-powered pirates but are shanghaied into the crew. Kara turns down some sashimi-like food that apparently gives power. She finds a mermaid-like creature with hunks of flesh missing, who asks to be killed to make it stop. Kara flashes back to Krypton where her mother asked to be killed, which she did. Grace, busy fighting the pirates, asks Kara to kill the creature. She can't and is stabbed by the lead pirate. Grace kills the creature, ending the pirates' powers. Before they kill Kara, she is rescued by a new hero, Power Boy.
