Superboy #83

Superboy #83 kicks off what the cover itself cheekily bills as "another new era" — and the tongue-in-cheek energy is right there in plain sight, with Kon-El mid-yawn in a white lab coat, Superman-logo tee, and tiger-head slippers, looking thoroughly unimpressed while chaos erupts around him. Robin, a snarling beast-creature, a robotic figure, and a handful of other colorful characters crowd the background, all rendered with energetic linework by cover penciler Pascual Ferry and inker Álvaro López. Writer Joe Kelly promises "How Kon-El Got His Groove Back," so whatever lies inside, this February 2001 issue is clearly gearing up for something fresh — and it has the self-aware humor to wink at the reader along the way.
