When Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes discover that the mysterious theft of the Legion’s equipment is tied to the fall of billionaire R. J. Brande, tensions rise as Winzwanda, Schattengirl, Chamäleonboy, and Mon-El race to breach Brande’s sealed estate—while the rest of the team is arrested at Cosmic World. With a sudden earthquake shifting the truth, the heroes must uncover whether the crisis is a cover-up, a conspiracy, or something far more dangerous, all while the President of Earth’s involvement comes under scrutiny.
In a story from Superboy #4/1980, President Kandru of Earth admits to stealing Rene J. Brande’s fortune to ease suffering on the planet, but the fallout ignites a dangerous revenge plot. A patient escaped from St. Croix Hospital—driven by rage—targets four Legionnaires: Sonnenboy, Superboy, Blitzjunge, and Saturngirl, using psychological weapons to break their resolve and teach them fear.
