“How Not to Be Good or, The Payoff”

The fifth and final chapter of this 2008 Marvel limited series arrives with a cover by Marko Djurdjević that commands attention: a winged, flame-crowned figure in a suit dominates the stormy composition, arms spread wide with large feathered wings flanking him while monstrous, snarling faces press in from the lower corners. It's a fittingly dramatic send-off image for a series built around supervillains scheming together, and Djurdjević's atmospheric, almost painterly rendering gives the whole scene a brooding intensity. Fred Van Lente and Francis Portela bring their roguish ensemble caper to its conclusion with "How Not to Be Good or, The Payoff" — a title that promises exactly the kind of delightfully twisted resolution this team-up deserves.
