“The Case of the Phantom Fisherman and the Contrary Weathervane”

In "The Case of the Phantom Fisherman and the Contrary Weathervane," the Sheriff and his posse track a band of elusive bank robbers into the hills, where they vanish without a trace—again. As the posse sets up camp, the Sheriff ventures out alone and spots the mysterious Phantom slipping toward the outlaws’ hidden lair. Written and illustrated by Art Pinajian, this 1940 adventure blends frontier suspense with a touch of the uncanny, all rendered with crisp, dynamic lines. The cover by Sam Gilman captures the eerie stillness of the moment, a lone figure against the shadowed hills.
