“Land of the Rising Sun [Part 1]”

In "Land of the Rising Sun [Part 1]," Japan forms its own national superhero team, Big Hero 6, led by the Silver Samurai, as the world's superpowers flex their might. When young genius Hiro is rejected by his mother for joining, he seeks out Sunfire—only to discover the legendary hero is fading fast from his own powers. With the team in need and his mother suddenly taken, Hiro must team up with Baymax to face the threat of Everwraith, all while grappling with the weight of becoming a hero on his own terms. Written by Scott Lobdell, Steve Seagle, and Duncan Rouleau, with art by Gus Vazquez and cover by Gus Vazquez and Bud LaRosa, this 1998 Marvel issue blends personal stakes with global superhero ambition.
