Sub-Mariner #39
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeFrom the depths of Cold War tension comes this 1955 Atlas Comics gem, with cover art by Joe Maneely dropping Namor right into the thick of an underwater showdown. The cover shows a bare-chested Sub-Mariner grappling with armed enemy frogmen — their Soviet insignia clearly visible — around what appears to be an explosive-rigged structure, the murky green ocean backdrop amplifying the stakes. Billed as "his most dangerous adventure," this issue features Bill Everett — sole writer, artist, inker, and letterer — delivering "The Commie Frogmen vs. Sub-Mariner!" at a dime a copy.

Namor’s mother introduces him to his cousin Namora, who has recently returned to their undersea kingdom with her father. Namor shuns her, however, preferring his male friends, but when he becomes trapped while playing in a sunken submarine, his old friends abandon him, and it’s Namora who comes to his rescue.
