“The Man Who Sold the Earth!”

In Strange Adventures #47 (1954), unemployed chemist Ken Sabin stumbles upon a peculiar offer: a hundred dollars for one of the most advanced robots ever built, meant to serve as a household assistant. Written by Sid Gerson and illustrated by Irwin Hasen with inks by Bernard Sachs, the story unfolds as Ken brings the robot home, only to grow uneasy about the quiet efficiency of the metal servants—and the unsettling sense that something far more dangerous lies beneath their polished surfaces. The cover, by Murphy Anderson, captures the eerie promise of a future that feels just a little too perfect.
