“Secret of the Moon Sphinx!”

In "Secret of the Moon Sphinx!", Adam Strange returns to Rann with a dangerous secret: Jakarta, the last of the Dust Devils, has survived and is hiding within him, seeking vengeance against Ranangar. As Adam and Jakarta crash-land near Melbourne, Australia, a surprising discovery about static electricity leads to a shocking containment method—using a Wimshurst Machine to freeze the elusive creature. Written by Gardner Fox and brought to life by Carmine Infantino’s dynamic art and Murphy Anderson’s sharp inks, this 1971 tale blends sci-fi intrigue with a tense, grounded mystery. The cover, also by Murphy Anderson, captures the eerie suspense of the moment.

Adam Strange returns to Rann, unknowingly carrying Jakarta, the last surviving Dust Devil. It found a way to avoid being turned into glass like the rest of his race and, seeking revenge, he attacks Ranangar. When the pair return to Earth near Melbourne, Australia, Adam accidentally discovers that static electricity can freeze Jakarta, traps him with a Wimshurst Machine (a machine that discharges electricity) and then turns the Dust Devil over to Australian authorities where he is immobilized and kept in a prison laboratory.
