Strange #249
In "Illusions!", the Avengers face a shocking assault on Hydrobase as Heavy Metal and the Super-Adaptoid converge on the base with hidden motives. With Machine Man finally stepping forward to expose the Adaptoid’s true plan, the team must confront the arrival of the Cosmic Cube—now embodied as the sentient being Kubik—whose powers are swiftly duplicated by the Adaptoid in a tense escalation. Written by Ralph Macchio and illustrated by John Buscema with inks by Tom Palmer and colors by Paul Becton, this 1990 issue features a cover by Ciro Tota that captures the high-stakes clash.
In "Illusions!", Alpha Flight crash-lands at the East Edmonton Mall thanks to the Dreamqueen’s trickery, only to find themselves in a surreal clash with China Force, who sees them as invaders. With the mall’s halls twisting around them, Laura must summon her powers to open a portal and send China Force back—before the illusion consumes them all.
In "Le secret du Cube," the Avengers face a dual threat as Heavy Metal assaults Hydrobase and the Super-Adaptoid reveals its hidden agenda. With Machine Man playing a quiet game of deception, the Adaptoid hijacks the Avengers' systems to locate the Cosmic Cube—only to summon Kubik, a sentient, humanoid manifestation of the Cube itself. When the Adaptoid copies Kubik’s powers, the balance of power shifts in unpredictable ways.
