When cattle around the territory start dying from poisoned water, Straight Arrow and his sidekick Packy McCloud trace the contamination upstream to Pale Smoke Mountain, where a reclusive scientist has built a hidden laboratory. The pair must contend with the mysterious stranger's deadly inventions—including explosive bullets, a lethal electric chair, and vials of plague germs—as they work to stop his dangerous experiments and rescue Packy from captivity.
