In "The Doctor of Medicine Hat," young doctor Steve Sullivan becomes entangled with a mysterious stalwart redman and warpaints of a Cheyenne who have launched a war of fury against Dr. Paul Sullivan, a rancher and miner respected throughout the territory. After Sullivan is shot and wounded, Steve pursues the attackers across treacherous terrain—through a wolf attack, a raging river, and a dangerous canyon—before discovering the Sioux village responsible for the stolen horse herd and confronting the perpetrators. The story culminates in a town confrontation where Steve seeks to recover the stolen furs and restore peace between the settlers and the Native Americans involved in the conflict.
