“Things That Go Bump in the Night : A Tale of Times Past: 1943”

This "Times Past" installment of James Robinson's acclaimed Starman series transports readers back to 1944, as vividly announced on Tony Harris's cover — a golden-era heroine in yellow costume and green cape, her masked face striking and self-assured, stands at the center while shadowy, hat-brimmed figures lurk in circular vignettes below and a looming supernatural presence hovers behind her. Harris's painterly, atmospheric cover perfectly captures that blend of Golden Age pulp and wartime noir that made this series something special in 1998. With art from Mike Mayhew and inks by Wade von Grawbadger, this "Things That Go Bump in the Night" chapter looks like a richly moody detour into Opal City's past.
