The cover of this November 1988 DC release sets a kinetic desert-highway scene: Starman — in his bold yellow-and-purple costume with the white star emblem — soars through the air while bullets spark off his chest, fired by a grim-faced man leaning out of a speeding red convertible with a blue energy weapon, as a frightened blonde woman grips the wheel below him. Tom Lyle and Bob Smith's cover work gives the story title "Field Testing" an immediate, literal charge — whatever Starman's powers can do, they're clearly being put to the test right now. Roger Stern's writing paired with Lyle's interior art promises the same sharp energy that jumps right off this sun-baked cover.
