Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Last Stand #2 occupies a pivotal position within the first sustained Marvel attempt to tell the canonical story of the Galactic Civil War's final chapter — the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens that had been depicted in prose but never fully dramatized in comics. As the second chapter of the concluding mini-series in a twelve-issue event, it is the issue in which Luke, Leia, and Han are brought together on Chandrila in direct response to an Acolytes of the Beyond assassination attempt, advancing the multi-faction conspiracy (rogue Imperials, Spice Runners of Kijimi, and the Acolytes) that threads through all three series. The issue also reinforces the comic-canonical presence of Reyna Oskure and underworld figures like Tomasso and Vigilch, who represent Marvel's effort to bring previously novel-exclusive post-Endor mythology into the visual medium for the first time.

History

The issue is part of the three-series Battle of Jakku event conceived and written entirely by Alex Segura — the novelist behind Poe Dameron: Free Fall — and announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. Editor Mark Paniccia oversaw the project, which was designed to launch Marvel's post-Return of the Jedi era immediately after the conclusion of the 2020 Star Wars ongoing series at issue #50. Last Stand #2 was illustrated by Jethro Morales (who also drew several issues of Insurgency Rising) with colors by Jim Campbell and a cover by E.M. Gist, and it was released on January 8, 2025 — the second of four weekly issues shipped in the final leg of the event.

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are reunited on Chandrila in the wake of an Acolytes of the Beyond assassination attempt against Leia, driving the issue's central dramatic tension.
Tomasso, Vigilch, Marinda Gan, and Gen Tri — members of the Spice Runners of Kijimi crime syndicate — appear as supporting characters; Marinda Gan originated in Segura's own 2020 YA novel Poe Dameron: Free Fall before receiving visual depictions in Marvel comics.
Reyna Oskure, the Acolytes of the Beyond's operative liaising with Grand Moff Adelhard, continues her arc in this issue; she is one of several new characters Segura introduced across the event to bridge novel-era lore and the comic medium.
