“Deathride”

A milestone two-hundredth issue from DC's 1976 war comics lineup, this landmark edition of Star Spangled War Stories features the Unknown Soldier and promises an Enemy Ace bonus story to boot. Joe Kubert's cover depicts two figures in fierce combat on what appears to be a moving train — a soldier in green and an adversary in blue tumbling amid a fiery explosion, rifles and chaos filling every corner of the frame. Kubert both wrote and drew the interior story "Deathride," making this a top-to-bottom showcase for one of comics' most accomplished war storytellers.
