This September 1945 issue of Star Spangled Comics features a wonderfully tense cover by Jack Kirby (inked by Stan Kaye), where members of the Newsboy Legion find themselves tied to chairs around a birthday cake — with what appears to be a lit bomb planted right in the frosting. The Guardian crashes through a window in the background, arriving just in time as a menacing villain looms over the helpless kids with obvious ill intent. Inside, you'll also find Liberty Belle, Star-Spangled Kid, Penniless Palmer, and Robotman, making this a packed package of fast-action 1945 adventure.
