After the death of her parents, Tessa goes to live with her uncle and his daughter. She enjoys pumping gas at her uncle's filling station, but Veronica wants more out of life. When a famous racing car driver pulls up to the pumps, Veronica tries to get his attention but it is Tessa he notices. He enters her in a beauty contest for Miss Petrol-Pump 1971 and they soon fall in love.
