Spooky #48

Harvey's "tuff little ghost" is in fine form on this October 1960 cover, where Spooky — bowler hat floating above his ghostly white head — throws his arms wide to cast an enormous, wild-armed shadow that sends a cowboy-hatted fellow cowering on the ground beside a cactus. It's a perfect little scene of mischief, capturing exactly the playful scare-first attitude that made Spooky such a beloved fixture in Harvey's lineup. At a dime a copy, issue #48 is a cheerful slice of early-'60s all-ages fun.
