Spider-Man: With Great Power... #5

The fifth and final chapter of Marvel Knights' retro-tinged limited series arrives with a Tony Harris cover that puts Spider-Man in a genuinely tense spot — gripped in the massive hands of a stern, mustachioed man while a wide-eyed young woman looks on anxiously and a hat-wearing older figure looms in the corner. Harris's painterly composition bathes the whole scene in warm amber and orange tones, giving it the feel of a noir snapshot from Peter Parker's earliest days as a hero. David Lapham's story reaches its conclusion here, making this a satisfying finish to one of 2008's more thoughtful Spider-Man yarns.
