Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt #3

Part three of J. M. DeMatteis's Spider-Man Special Event series, "The Lost Hunt," plunges deeper into the frenzy its chapter title promises. Ryan Brown's painted cover captures Spider-Man mid-anguish — mask torn away, mouth open in a cry — while an enormous, grimacing monstrous figure looms behind him and writhing tentacles, alien jaws, and a glowing orb crowd the edges of the image, conveying a hero completely overwhelmed on all sides. With DeMatteis at the helm and a talented art team including Eder Messias, Kyle Hotz, and colorist Neeraj Menon, this 2023 chapter looks like a genuinely unsettling trip through something much stranger than your average Spidey adventure.
