Spider-Man: Reign #4

The fourth and final chapter of this 2007 Marvel Knights miniseries arrives with a cover that says everything without saying a word: a massive, shadowy symbiote figure looms from behind, its enormous clawed hands encasing a battered Spider-Man whose suit glows with crackling, fiery energy. Kaare Andrews — sole architect of this series as writer, artist, and inker — delivers a cover image of raw tension, the hero dwarfed yet defiant against an overwhelming dark presence. It's a fittingly intense capstone image for a series that reimagined Spider-Man in bold, painterly strokes alongside colorist José Villarrubia.
