The series was shepherded through Marvel's Spider-Man editorial office under editor Danny Fingeroth and editor-in-chief Tom DeFalco, rather than the X-Men line, which shaped its street-level, Daily Bugle-centric tone. Kurt Busiek scripted all three issues with Pat Broderick on pencils — Broderick being a veteran Marvel artist known for earlier runs on Captain Marvel — and the story was explicitly placed in X-Factor continuity between issues #95 and #96, after Forge had joined as team liaison and Wolfsbane had returned from Muir Island. Both a direct-sale edition and a newsstand edition of issue #1 were distributed.
