In "Κραυγή αγωνίας," Machine Man, convinced Iron Man is a machine like himself, seeks out Tony Stark for answers to his unresolved dilemmas—only to find a drunk and unraveling Stark, who mistakes Machine Man for an agent of Obadiah Stane. After a tense confrontation that ends with Machine Man overcoming Iron Man, the revelation of a human mind within the armor leaves him stunned, and he departs quickly. Meanwhile, Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes manages to subdue two of Stane's operatives and pilots Stark's jet back to the U.S., while Stark sinks further into his self-destructive spiral.
