“The Hidden Past”

Speedball — the Masked Marvel himself — dominates this 1989 cover in full kinetic blue, surrounded by his signature colorful energy spheres while a flying car, a firing gun, and a floating circular inset of two mysterious faces amplify the swirl of questions literally plastered across the scene: "How?" "Why?" "Who?" Steve Ditko's cover pencils (inked by Bruce Patterson) give the whole thing a wonderfully energetic, off-kilter energy that suits Robbie Baldwin's bouncing alter ego perfectly. With a story titled "The Hidden Past" and a creative team including Jo Duffy and Ditko himself on interior art, issue #9 promises some intriguing answers beneath all those question marks.
