Spawn #52

Spawn #52 (August 1996) delivers a cover that crackles with infernal energy, as a massive green-skinned creature lunges forward through an explosion of fire and debris, bearing down on a smaller, cloaked Spawn figure surrounded by sickly green flames at the lower foreground. The collision of scale and raw power between the two figures — rendered with striking detail by penciler Greg Capullo and inker Todd McFarlane — makes this one of the series' most visually arresting covers of the year. Titled "Messiah," this issue promises the kind of dark, otherworldly confrontation that kept readers loyal to Image's flagship supernatural series throughout the mid-1990s.
