- Part Two of the 'Complex Messiah' story arc, continuing Jim Downing's arc as the second Hellspawn following Al Simmons' death in issue #185.
- Written by Todd McFarlane and Jon Goff; interior art by Szymon Kudranski; colors by FCO Plascencia; letters by Tom Orzechowski.
- The standard cover by Todd McFarlane is a direct homage to his own Batman #423 (DC Comics, 1988) — a cape-dominated composition he originally drew before leaving DC to co-found Image.
- A 1:25 retailer incentive variant reproduces the cover in black-and-white sketch form, also by McFarlane.
- Story beats: the Vatican dispatches representatives to assess Jim Downing's claimed miraculous powers, and a member of Jim's inner circle meets a final fate.
- Jim Downing (the second Spawn) carried the title as protagonist from issue #185 through approximately issue #250, when Al Simmons reclaimed the mantle — making #230 a mid-arc chapter of that roughly 65-issue secondary-Spawn run.
