Spawn #144
Part three of "Devil to Pay" arrives in this 2005 issue of Spawn, and Greg Capullo's cover sets a brooding, nightmarish tone — a massive, grotesque figure looms in the background, its flesh rippling with alien, tentacled growths, while a chain-wielding Spawn lunges through a blood-red hellscape toward a small, distant figure barely visible in the crimson haze below. The scale contrast between the towering horror above and the lone combatant is genuinely unsettling, making the stakes feel enormous. With Todd McFarlane and Brian Holguin on the story and Angel Medina's interior art, this mid-run chapter looks every bit as intense as the title promises.
