Sonic Super Special #11

Sonic Super Special #11 delivers a generous 48 pages of Archie action, and its cover — penciled by Patrick Spaziante and inked by Ken Penders — is a wonderfully busy gathering of the Freedom Fighters and friends. Sally Acorn stands prominently in the foreground alongside a crouching white wolf-like figure, while Sonic looks on from the side with a speech bubble cheekily asking "Whose comic is this anyway?!", and a crowd of characters including a pink-haired figure, a blonde rabbit, and a dark robotic-looking antagonist fill the smoky background. With writer Ken Penders and artist Jim Valentino behind the interior story "Ascension," this is a solid 1999 slice of Archie's Sonic universe at its most ambitious.
