History

The series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 as part of Marvel and Lucasfilm's publishing push surrounding the film, which had premiered theatrically on May 25, 2018. Writer Robbie Thompson — whose background spanned television, film, video games, and comics — scripted all seven issues, with Irish artist Will Sliney providing both pencil and ink duties throughout the run; cover art was provided by Phil Noto, with Federico Blee on interior colors and Joe Caramagna lettering. Editorial oversight fell to Mark Paniccia, a longtime steward of Marvel's Star Wars line. Thompson's script drew on material from Mur Lafferty's Solo: A Star Wars Story: Expanded Edition novelization — particularly for the expanded scenes around Han's tribunal and reassignment at the Imperial Academy — though the comic introduces its own minor variations on those same scenes, such as altering the number of raiders Solo neutralizes during his training exercise.
