“Gods and Super-gods”

Marvel's 1975 series about a man hurled to the dawn of time delivers its second issue with a cover that makes good on its own boast — "Action! Dinosaurs! Lost lands! Cavemen! Aliens! This one's got it all!" Gil Kane and Tom Palmer pack the image with Skull diving knife-first onto a horned green dinosaur while a chained blonde woman, a group of primitive cavemen, and a pair of alien figures on a throne crowd the background. With the tagline promising "Man against Gods," Skull the Slayer #2 — "Gods and Super-gods" — looks like exactly the kind of pulpy, anything-goes adventure Marvel did so well in the mid-'70s.
