“Cartas de amor”

"Cartas de amor" in Sissi Novelas Gráficas #209 (1963) delivers a quiet yet gripping moment of connection in a rural setting, where a weary traveler named Dave Silk arrives at a farm after spotting a barn fire. Offered shelter for the night, he learns of Jane’s impending loss of "Las dos rosas" in just six days due to ruined crops, and quietly promises to help—though how remains a mystery. The story unfolds with restrained emotion, anchored by Antonio Bernal’s expressive cover art and the stark, evocative graytones of the interior.

The stranger Jane sees introduces himself as Dave Silk. He is unfamiliar with the area and came to seek a place to stay the night when he saw the fire from the barn. He offers to work in exchange for food and a place to sleep. Jane tells him he can stay the night, but it is useless to work. Jim tells Dave that, with the crops destroyed in the barn, Jane will lose "Las dos rosas" in six days. When Jane also tells him that, Dave answers that it will not happen if he can help it.
