Sidekick #12

Arriving as the twelfth and final chapter of J. Michael Straczynski's dark superhero saga, this Image/Joe's Comics issue closes out the series with a cover by Tom Mandrake that is equal parts haunting and strangely tender. Against a fiery sunset, two silhouetted figures — one with wild, flowing hair — hold hands amidst a sprawling field of skulls and corpses, while armored or monstrous figures loom in the ruined background. It's a striking visual contradiction: an almost romantic moment poised at the center of absolute devastation, rendered in HiFi's smoldering orange-and-teal palette.
