In *La femme et le robot*, two explorers, Edward "Doc" Emerson and Steve Crandall, make first contact with an alien vessel containing hibernation chambers—one holding a mysterious woman, Irilene, and the other a robot, Robotrol man, whose need for hibernation defies logic. As Irilene awakens, she claims to be a space policewoman, and the robot a prisoner, but her strange questions about Earth’s rarest treasures set off alarms as the crew prepares to escort her home.
